Casablanca and Marrakech airports ranked among Africa’s top 10 by seat capacity in August 2026 as Moroccan airports handled more than 22 million passengers in the first seven months of the year, according to the African Airlines Association and the National Airports Office.
Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport and Marrakech Menara International Airport have been ranked among Africa’s 10 largest airports by seat capacity for August 2026, according to a performance update from the African Airlines Association. Moroccan airports handled more than 22.28 million passengers between January and July 2026, up 8.77 percent from the same period in 2025, the National Airports Office reported, as air travel demand continues to grow across the country’s major aviation hubs. AFRAA reported that total seat capacity across African airports increased 8.8 percent in August 2026 compared with the same month in 2025. Intra-African route capacity grew 10.5 percent over the same period, driven by network expansion, new route launches and the deployment of larger aircraft by both African and international carriers. North Africa accounted for the largest share of the continent’s seat capacity at 41.9 percent, followed by Eastern Africa at 22.7 percent and Southern Africa at 18.3 percent, according to the industry body’s latest performance update. Casablanca Mohammed V remained Morocco’s busiest airport with 6,953,695 passengers recorded between January and July, while Marrakech-Menara followed at 6,407,303 passengers, reflecting the city’s significant role in tourism-driven air traffic to southern Morocco.
